Monkey: Please Baby Look at Me

My homemade photo session. ;)

As the first few months of Monkey's life flew by, he did not meet his milestones. I had a calendar and would look out for things a baby should be doing by month 4, 5 and 6. Nothing was happening. My boy never looked at me and he was totally mute. He would cry, but he did not grunt nor make those precious coo sounds a baby makes. He interacted with me very little. I would try and try to get a response from him and there was nothing.

The Boss and I did know he could see us and hear us. We were so scared.

I clearly remember the first moment my Monkey smiled. I was in a grocery store waiting for a prescription to be filled. I was pushing him in the shopping cart back and forth and saying "hello". My heart leaped! He smiled and it was a glorious moment for me. Monkey was 8 months old. I remember the moment like a movie in my head. What's even more amazing is that he's never stopped smiling!

I shared with our doctor often that the milestones weren't occurring. I had a mother's intuition that something was wrong. The doctor would always say, "Don't worry, he's just a late bloomer." I loved our pediatrician, but it was time to move on to someone who would listen to this nagging feeling I had.

During this time, we started to see a new pediatrician. He was a God send. The new doctor listened carefully and agreed something was wrong. It was a blessing to speak to a doctor that was so knowledgeable and ready to take charge with us!

Next was getting answers and know how we were going to help our son. I was scared, but ready to know how to attack the issue and help my Monkey.

I look forward to sharing this part of my life with you and recounting the last 8 years of my Monkey's life through my posts. I'm sharing as part of my own healing process and to hopefully inspire anyone reading that no matter the struggle you have in life, you can fight through and persevere.
