Our son is nine years old. I thought it was time to share with him that I was working on getting healthy. I just casually told him one evening that I was making healthier food choices and exercising so I could have a healthy long life. That's all I said since he's 9 years old, but I know he's very aware of what's happening around him I wanted him to know. I told him that he may see me eat dessert or fried chicken because I am a person and I still eat those things in moderation and it was not something for him to "police me" I told him that because I know him and I didn't want him to think he could do that. I share with him every day when I reach 10,000 steps and he cheers for me and gives me a high five. I don't share with him about pounds nor inches lost. He doesn't need to know details at this age.
I liked including him in my journey so he learns from it and is more aware of food choices. I feel like I have always talked about healthy foods, but now he is actually seeing me do it.
My boy sure is growing up! I love how he giggles when he sees me working out and imitates me. He'll come into the room while I'm on the treadmill and he likes to sit and talk to me. My Monkey will ask me if I need the fan turned up or if I need water. My Monkey is thoughtful like that.
Feels good to be a good role model to our son in a way I never have been before.
