Before taking a picture, I should make sure the counter is free of crumbs.
Recently, The Boss cooked a Chile Verde for a chili cook off at our church. Our small group cooked three different kinds, Traditional, Non-traditional and Spicy. Last minute it was suggested for us to have a sign for our chili.
I had no time to make a pretty a la Pinterest styled sign. I had time to make a sign just of what I had around the house. I remembered I had one of those stick photo holders thrown in a drawer. I've had that thing for like ten years. I just never put it out because I did not want to dust it nor have the stress of changing out the picture. So why did I buy it? I like the idea behind it.
I broke off the photo holder. Then I needed something to stab it into. Hmmm, a square of cheese... no. I just had the shredded kind. How about a marshmallow...nah. I only had mini ones. How about Styrofoam? That would be great, I do have the next best thing.... floral foam. YES! I do! So glad I've kept that piece around. So I cut a piece off and made a mess of green foam sprinkles all over the counter. I wondered if I have inhaled green poison because it's so powdery. I was glad the foam was green. It matched the name of the chili, Chili Verde. I stabbed the photo stick holder into it and it falls over. Bummer. So I cut a bigger block of the foam then I have to make six more cuts to make the sides even. Then I stack the two blocks of foam and stab the photo stick holder and it stands up all by itself. Yippee for victory!
Next up, is the sign itself. I have a package of different sizes of card stock squares. I've had this package for five years and it seems like it never lessens. It has the perfect colors and sizes. So I grab 3 cards (green, of course) because I know I won't get the writing looking good the first time. The Boss knows I'm making a sign so he sends me a text from the other room to tell me what to write on it. Sure will, easy. It takes three attempts to get all the words even and centered, but I got it done. Next, I slip it onto the photo stick holder. Woohoo! The sign is done. Take that Pinterest. Sure, it's cheesy lookin, but I like it and The Boss is happy. So I transport this sign very carefully for like 7 miles. I'm careful not to bump it or make the hole in the foam any bigger... well, you know that's a bad thing when that happens.
So we get there and we set up our chili and relish. I proudly set down my sign. I center it, I move it over a bit. Oh wait, it's too close to the next chili. There it is, standing green and proud. I step back and I think it looks great.
A very nice man comes by and says names on signs are not allowed.
Oh.
As you can see the sign has two names and I don't have a pair of scissors. I sadly pick up my sign and promised he would have another occasion to shine. Haha!
Just not today.
PS. The Boss won the non-traditional category! Woot!
